How to get the wedding photos that you want

Communication is essential when talking to your wedding vendors; this is especially true for wedding photographers. You need to make sure that both you and your photographer have the same vision for how you would like your photographs to turn out. For example, you may have a vision of traditional style wedding photos with a simplistic background. However, your photographer may have a contemporary style in mind with abstract backgrounds. It would then be unfair to be upset with the photographer for not taking photographs that you anticipated if you did not convey this to the photographer.
There are several things that you can do to make sure that you end up with the photographs that you want, such as showing the photographer sample photographs of the style that you would like. You can scour wedding magazines and married friends photo albums for inspiration. You may also like to write out a specific checklist of the exact photos you would like, such as cutting of the cake, the first dance and any other important moments that you would like to capture. Give the photographer a copy, but also have someone in the bridal party to hang onto a copy in case the sheet gets misplaced.
Remember, your photographer won’t know any of your guests, so if there are certain people who hold more significance to you, make sure that someone in the bridal party points out which table has more sentiment. For example, your third cousin, who you were obliged to invite but don’t know very well, may be very vicarious and very photogenic. The photographer responds to this, by taking many photos of her. However, your dear Aunt Sue who is very timid has not been photographed once. A good photographer will go around to all the tables ensuring that every guest is photographed at least once.
The important thing is to make sure that you see a folio of the photographers work, as this will give you a better indication of how you would expect your photographs to turn out. Try to make sure that you actually see a folio of photos taken from several different weddings and not just the one set of wedding photos that turn out the best. This will give you a better chance of seeing a broader range of the photographer’s talent.
